Doubling the square meterage! - Great Hockham, Norfolk
Our team went out site to visit the customer to discuss what their needs and requirements are; with their ideas. Working in conjunction with the architect and the customer, a design and plan for the extension was constructed.
To start the project the first stage was to demolish any outer buildings and remove from site to create a clean canvas to work with. Due to the having an adjoining out building with a neighbour, we ensured that our customer had a party wall agreement in place to protect themselves and their neighbour. Once all arising had been removed from site our team got to work constructing the foundations and drainage in preparation for the extension.
With the foundations laid and complete, the second stage of the project was to start construction of the dual cavity walls, which consisted of thermal blocks, insulation and a final layer of facing brick walls. Moving onto the construction of the roof, all timbers were hand-cut and installed to the specification from the structural engineer; creating the openings for the electrically controlled velux windows. For added strength to support the weight of the roof, our team installed a steel flitch plate which was cladded with dual timber either side for the hip of the roof. The final stages of the outer building was to felt and batten the whole roof finished with traditional tiles. With the roof and outer building complete, all windows and doors were installed to finish.
The next key stage of the build was to work on the internal of the extension. The internal framework was completed to create a room layout to the design specification. With underfloor heating being laid throughout the entirety of the extension; providing efficient heating for our customer and multiple controlled zones. With a liquid flow screed going over the top of the heating system, this will provide a smooth surface and will not affect the heat coming through. Now the build will move onto being fully plastered and painted, ready for the finishing touches.
The completed build
Finally the last stage of the build process was to install a complete downstairs bathroom with shower; due to currently not having access to a downstairs toilet facility, added utility room and kitchen. The kitchen was contemporary of design going for matte grey cupboards, mirror grey quartz worktops, dual oven built into the cupboard design and finally an induction hob with an extractor fan built in. The kitchen is very modern by design, and is well suited to the modern extension.
Overall the project was a complete success and our customer was left very happy with their new extension – “A big thank you to everyone who worked on this for us. It will make a huge difference to day-to-day life. The camp chairs will do for now until the sofa arrives!!”
